Microsoft 365 Subscription Changes 2026

Important Update from Microsoft – Action Required for Microsoft 365 Customers

Microsoft has announced a major change to how Microsoft 365 subscriptions are handled after expiry — and it’s important all customers are aware.

What’s changing?

Until now, Microsoft 365 subscriptions benefited from a free grace period (typically around 30 days) after expiry, allowing services to continue while renewal was completed.

This free grace period is being removed.

Key dates to know

What happens when your Microsoft 365 subscription expires?

At the end of the subscription term, customers must choose one of the following options:

Renew the subscription : No service interruption

Cancel at end of term : Services stop immediately on the expiry date

Extended Service Term (EST) :

  1. Services continue with monthly billing
  2. Includes a price uplift compared to standard plans
  3. Can be canceled anytime (prorated billing)

Important notice:

Turning auto‑renew OFF alone is no longer enough. If no action is taken, subscriptions may automatically move into paid Extended Service Term (EST).
